One of the worst natural disasters ever to hit St. Louis brought out its best.
People throughout the region have come together with donations and acts of volunteerism, large and small, in the wake of last week’s tragic tornado. St. Louis has done itself proud.
A little nonprofit group I have the honor to work with is just one example of many stepping up in this time of need.
It’s called InExcelsis, and its year-round mission is to reach out to unhoused people in the St. Louis area — building one-to-one relationships grounded in respect, dignity, and love. It’s the dream and legacy of Severin Pelekara, a wonderful young man from Cameroon who, after years as a Methodist missionary in Latin America, moved to St. Louis about a decade ago.

The signature service of InExcelsis is a mobile shower unit that brings hygiene, food, clothing, and — most importantly — care to people living in encampments and other places where they can be reached.
This is what they do 365 days a year. But in the wake of the tornado, that work has become even more urgent.

Now, it just so happens to be my birthday. And while I know you’re all dying to send lavish gifts (especially a new bike), I’m using the occasion to support something better.
A GoFundMe — hosted by InExcelsis and their board chair Jack Kennedy — is now live.
🙏 I’d be grateful if you’d consider a donation, large or small:
