Monopoly utility sticks it to customers with new fine print about lawsuits.
The nice people at Ameren have just made an offer that their customers cannot refuse. Or at least that’s what they assume.
It is contained in the latest edition of “Updates to Ameren's Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.” Mine arrived last Wednesday by email – and thanks to a tip from a friend – I did the one thing Ameren would rather that its customers not do.
I read it.
Well, maybe not the entire thing. But this line, in all caps, certainly got my attention:
“YOU ARE AGREEING TO GIVE UP THE ABILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ARBITRATION OR CLASS ACTION.”
