Missouri’s ruling elites did what ruling elites do last week.

They put the voters in their place. Again.

Gov. Mike Kehoe and fellow Republican leaders overruled much of Missouri Proposition A, the Minimum Wage and Earned Paid Sick Time Initiative. It passed in November with an impressive 58 percent plurality.

It failed July 10 — in key respects with the stroke of a pen.

The politicians let stand two minimum-wage hikes in the measure, but wiped out two of its most vital provisions affecting Missouri families. They did so with a level of hubris and disrespect for voters that is hardly forgivable just for having become business as usual.

But the story that seems not to have been told is this: They really stuck it to the MAGA base this time.
