Were the Bill of Rights put to a vote of the American people today, Amendment VIII would face the greatest opposition.
It reads: “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.”
The amendment’s vague language would surely come under attack as “soft on crime.”
