The struggle over slavery was America’s original culture war. So, it was fitting that, on the occasion of Juneteenth, Sen. Josh Hawley scurried as if January 6 rioters were afoot to weigh in with some twisted revisionist history.

Hawley served up a faux tribute Monday to the holiday with this tweet: “Today is a good day to remember: Christianity is the faith and America is the place slavery came to die.”

One cannot remember stuff that didn’t happen. If anything, America was one of the main places slavery came to live. And I can’t imagine that most normal Christians – who are in it for the love of Jesus and not Ephesians 6:5-8 – appreciate having their faith dragged into this conversation.
