New polling from the New York Times received national coverage Monday with the “water is wet” discovery that Donald Trump is lapping the field in the 2024 Republican presidential race by a 37 percent margin.

It doubled down today with the creepy finding that this criminal is running even in a hypothetical rematch with President Joe Biden. Like most people, I can’t think about that.

But the NYT/Siena College poll’s crosstabs section on Republican voters – published Monday to scant notice – provides a snapshot of the GOP electorate with psychographic data that are more relevant. It’s a rare glimpse into a voting bloc that’s a bit more enigmatic than one might expect.
